I prefer weekly shopping, and the golden rule is never do it IF YOU ARE HUNGRY !!!
You could end up with some high-fat or high-sugar food in your trolley !
Before i go shopping i check my pantry, i don’t want to over buy stuff.
The way i shop, is pretty simple, first i like to do it on my own so no partner and no annoying toddler who point at everything !
First i run to the reduced to clear section ! like a crazy woman thinking she’s on supermarket sweep !
I use seasonal fruit and veg, they are usually cheaper, it’s bananas… HELLOOOO ! i know that’s not seasonal but UK can’t grow bananas because of the nice weather we have all year around haha !
So, bananas, pears and apples, raspberries, berries also because they are low in sugar.
Frozen fruit and veg, are super cheap too and as good as the fresh ones. So if you have a big freezer, just stock up !
I chose Own brand version, its way cheaper and at the end of the day Pasta is still Pasta… and wheatabix is still wheatabix !
i buy cheap cut meat, usually at my local butcher but if you don’t have one buy chin of beef, lots of mince, for fish i buy pollock.
Keep an eye on BOGOF ‘BUY ONE GET ONE FREE’, you might end up with too much food and a massive bill !!!
Also, I never buy any prepared or chopped food, like cheese, fruits and veg, first because I’m not lazy and second you pay twice the price !!!!
Keep your cupboard well stocked with some core ingredients and you will be able to whip a meal in NO TIME !
- Wholemeal flour
- Rice, i only like jasmine rice
- whole-wheat pasta
- Canned Fish , like mackerel, tuna and sardines
- Canned beans
- Canned tomatoes
